All in the Mix

from ENGAGE! (2016) by Antillectual

Modern day terrorism is seen as an unprecedented outburst of religious fundamentalism. But is it really new, or a reanimated form of older forms of terror? Could it be that the approach of organizations like ISIS only seems new because it is shaped under a unique mix of current circumstances?
Is it really exclusively religious or is there a broader cultural and economic aspect to it? Maybe the religious element (ironically!) is a western exponent of hooliganism, gang culture and organized crime, in combination with a subordinated position of Muslims and immigrants within western societies in particular and in the world in general?
Either way: the uprising of this new wave of terrorism is the second sign after 9/11 of the bankruptcy of the "end of history” doctrine (that was) introduced by neo-liberal thinkers when liberal democracy triumphed after the fall of communism. We have been preoccupied with an immoral capitalist culture and we haven't taken any alternative options or opinions seriously. Until a religious revenge on an immoral society presented the return of ideology. Payback is a so-called female dog.

It is all in the mix, so stop selling us your quick fix

Take some roots and subordination
Take their wings and their chance to rise
On the loose with no education
Stirred up with our hooligans, gangs and tribes

The lost prophets committed the crime
While lost profits absorbed our time
What's at stake is more than a dime

It is all in the mix, so stop selling us your quick fix
We think that we live in unprecedented times, but it's all in the mix
Another end to the end of history
